To become an occupational therapist, you must attend a master’s degree program that’s accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA). These programs are typically two to three years; in addition, doctoral programs are available. AOTA maintains a list of accredited schools by state on its official website.
Occupational Therapy Certification in Florida
The Florida Board of Occupational Therapy is responsible for licensure of this profession within the state. To be eligible for a license, you must graduate from an accredited occupational therapy program recognized by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), complete at least six months of supervised field work as part of that education program, and pass the official examination for occupational therapists given by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). Once licensed, occupational therapists in the state are required to complete continuing education hours each year to remain certified in good standing.
